DENIM THERAPY

“Every patch tells a story...

Remarked Denim Therapy's resident expert Raffael Contreras.  As I was picking up my jeans, I asked that he forgive my D.I.Y. patch job using multiple fabrics, threads and methods.

POST DENIM THERAPY

This outside view shows my reinforcement stitching (navy).  The indigo "darning stitch" is compliments of Denim Therapy's vintage darning machine.  Oh, and the indigo thread fades naturally like a jean.  And it softens up over time.  This is why you wanna come here.

My method has always been to patch with denim fabric reinforced with multiple rows of single needle stitching. But Denim Therapy implements "a genuine reconstruction of the original denim material, where new cotton thread and stitching are applied to the damaged area."  The vintage darning machine essentially reweaves the fabric with multiple rows of stitching on the surface and a layer of interfacing beneath.   This is much softer and more comfortable than a bulky patch.  And I love seeing how closely they match the thread.
